Despite the fact that his brother Ashok wished for him to follow in his footsteps and even helped him land several acting roles, Kumar went ahead to pursue his career in singing. He provided his actor-turned-producer buddy Bipin Gupta financial help for his 1964 film Dal Mein Kala and sent regular money to his other friend and actor Arun Kumar Mukherjee’s family after his death.
