Home remedies for treating acne

Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles of the face become blocked with oil & dead skin cells. It is everyone’s enemy that pops up at the worst times and refuses to leave. 

Though there are several prescription medicines to treat acne & help stop skin breakouts, they often cause side effects like dryness, redness or discolouration. Therefore, to help you, we have compiled a list of home remedies for acne that will help ward away unwanted pimples without causing any side-effect. The best part is- these remedies can be prepared with items readily available in your kitchen.

Tip 1- Apply Apple Cider Vinegar

How to use it:

  • Mix one part apple cider vinegar with three parts filtered water
  • After cleansing, apply the solution on your skin using a cotton ball
  • Leave it for a few minutes, then rinse it off with cold water
  • Repeat this process once or twice a day, as needed.

Tip 2- Honey & Cinnamon Mask

How to use it:

  • Mix three tablespoons honey & one tablespoon cinnamon to form a mask
  • Apply the mask to your face & leave it to sit for 10-15 minutes
  • Rinse off & pat your face dry.

Tip 3- Apply Tea tree oil

How to use it:

  • Mix one to two drops of tea tree oil with nine parts of water
  • Dab a cotton swab into the oil mixture and apply it to affected areas
  • Apply your usual moisturiser
  • Repeat this process every morning and night

Tip 4- Apply Green Tea Mask

How to use it:

  • Remove leaves from 1-2 tea bags and moisten them with warm water
  • Mix honey or aloe vera gel to the leaves
  • Apply the mixture to affected areas
  • Leave the mask for 10-15 minutes
  • Rinse off and pat your face dry.

Tip 5- Moisturise with Aloe Vera

How to use it:

  • Scrape the gel from an aloe vera plant with the help of a spoon
  • Apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel to your face as a moisturiser
  • Repeat the process to 1-2 times per day, as desired.

Tip 6- Apply Virgin Coconut oil

How to use it:

  • Take some organic, virgin coconut oil
  • If the oil is hard, massage it between your hands to liquefy it
  • Massage the coconut oil onto your face, focusing on affected areas
  • Wash off the coconut oil with a mild facial cleanser
  • You can also leave it overnight to get super hydrated skin in the morning.

Tip 7- Cucumber Face Pack

How to use it:

  • Mash one whole cucumber until you get a thin, watery paste consistency
  • Pour the mixture through a strainer
  • Add one tablespoon of sugar and mix well
  • Apply it to your face & leave it on for 10 minutes
  • Wash with cold water and pat dry.
