Home Remedies for Oily Hair

The increasing pollution, humid weather and dust adversely affect the quality of hair. The hair tends to get greasy because of the secretion of oil from the scalp or the overuse of oily hair products. Other factors like hormonal changes, Vitamin B deficiency are common reasons for oily hair. The greasy scalp attracts dirt and dust, which can lead to itching and dandruff. The situation gets worse during the summer and rainy season. Excessive hair wash can prove to be harmful to your hair as it makes the follicles weak.

Here is a list of home remedies that you can use to get rid of excessive oil in your hair.

Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice

  • Take 2 lemons and squeeze the juice out of them
  • Mix it with a cup of water & apply on your hair and scalp
  • After 10-15 minutes, wash your hair with lukewarm water.

Fuller’s Earth

Fuller's Earth

  • Mix half a cup of fuller’s earth with some water & add a few drops of lemon juice
  • Mix it well to make a smooth paste & apply it over the hair & scalp
  • After it dries, wash it off with lukewarm water.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera

  • Mix 2 tbsp of aloe vera gel & a few drops of tea tree oil
  • Apply this all over your scalp & massage thoroughly
  • Wash it off after 15 minutes for oil-free hair.

Tomato Hair Mask

Tomato Hair Mask

  • Blend one ripe tomato & mix it with a teaspoon of fuller’s earth
  • Apply the mask on your hair and scalp & leave it for 30 minutes
  • Wash it off with cold water & use twice a week to get better results.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Add 2-3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to a bowl of water & mix it well
  • Apply the mixture to your scalp & hair strands
  • Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Yoghurt Hair Mask

Yoghurt Hair Mask

  • Take half cup of plain yoghurt and mix it with 2 tbsp of lemon juice & 1 tbsp of baking soda
  • Apply the mixture to your hair & scalp
  • Cover your hair with a towel & leave it on for at least 30 minutes
  • Wash it off with plain water & use once a week for best results.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil

  • Add a few drops of tea tree oil and add it to any carrier oil & mix well
  • Apply the mixture to your scalp & through the length of your hair
  • Leave it for at least an hour
  • Wash it off with plain water & apply 2 to 3 times a week.

Shikakai

Shikakai

  • Mix 2 portions of shikakai powder with 1 portion of green gram flour & half portion of fenugreek powder
  • Take 1 tbsp of the mixture, mix it with egg white & use it as a shampoo
  • It does not lather like a shampoo but cleanses the hair and eliminates oil and dirt.
