Germany

Germany

Generally, the 2nd Sunday of May is celebrated as Mother’s Day in Germany. But in case if this day happens to be the Pentecost (the Christian festival for celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit that is held on the 7th Sunday following Easter), then Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of May. In ancient times, the mother’s day celebration was all about visiting the parent’s place where the relatives blessed the moms. During the 2nd World War, this day reached further fame where medals in gold, silver, and bronze were awarded to moms who had strong moral principles, set an example as a mom, and who raised at least 4 or more children. Now, the celebration is all about flowers, gifts, cards, and lavish meals.

Ethiopia

Unlike other countries, here in Ethiopia, Mother’s Day is a three-day celebration. As per the mother’s day traditions, the daughters bring butter, vegetables, cheese, and spices while the sons bring the meat of various types.
