Things that can turn you into a Ravana

Things that can turn you into a Ravana

Ravana was the king of Lanka whose original name was Dashagriva (a monster with ten heads). As per Hindu mythology, he was a great Vedic scholar who possessed intellectual capabilities and mastered 64 skills. But he was also very egoistic about his knowledge and power.

The ten heads of Ravana also symbolises ten negative emotions. His extermination sends out a powerful message to abstain from these ten negative emotions for a happy & peaceful life.

Ego

Stay grounded. Do not take pride in your blessings. Empathise with others. Accept when you are wrong. Listen to others.

Attachment

Learn to let go off. Holding onto things will only harm your mental peace and happiness. Be able to exist in the world while not grasping on to things.

Anger

Anger is your biggest enemy. With anger comes pain. It also affects your relationship with your loved ones. Practice relaxation skills. And if you have serious anger issues, seek help.

Hatred

Hatred is destructive, be it for yourself or others. Practice kindness. It makes things better for yourself and others.

Jealousy

Don’t be jealous of others’ success and achievements. It will make you bitter and clutter your mind. Focus on good things in life. Always remember that nobody has it all. Celebrate whatever you have.

Regret

Let go of what you could not control. Free yourself from negative feelings. Learn a lesson from failures and move on.

Greed

The excessive desire to accumulate things and money leads to corruption, cheating and manipulation. Don’t let money or worldly pleasures control your life. Ask yourself if you really need something or just want it.

Lust

Seek love, not lust. Pay attention to the character of a person rather than their physical beauty. Develop self-control. Be always in control of your body and desires.

Fear

Fear is a powerful emotion. Understand your fear. Accept it but do not let it control your life. Analyse what makes you afraid. Practice mindfulness.

Insensitivity

Everyone is dealing with their own battle. Don’t hurt anyone with your insensitive comments. Be kind and compassionate towards others.

Abandon these qualities to be a better, kind and compassionate human being.
