Mother's Day

What Does It Take To Be A Mom

I have always thought superheroes wear tights and have long blonde hair or Amazonian physique and perfect legs as with Super Girl or Wonder Women. My myopia enhanced by this naivety made me realize only late in life that the meek soft spoken woman with the graying hair is indeed a superhero albeit the costume.

As a kid I knew she had the power to see through walls as she always seems to know whether I was playing in the mud outside or drawing battle tanks on the walls of my room. She always had that air of magic and power to make all things better with a hug and a kiss. She was a doctor who knew how to mend wounds, physically and emotionally. It takes more than super human skills to learn what to feed your child, how to handle a public tantrum, and most of all how to guide and teach without being a Mussolini or a Kim Jong.

But what I never knew was how I made her cry a lot, that she was afraid and how she had always wanted the last piece of pie. Now I know it takes someone really brave to be a mother, someone strong enough to raise a child and someone special to love someone more than herself.

Well the question that remains is what do you give a superhero who expects nothing in return for her sacrifices? A mother’s day cake from Ferns N Petals with lots of love!
