Prep Up Your Home for Diwali

Prep up Your Home For Diwali

Diwali is the biggest Indian festival and it involves a lot of preparation. The deep cleaning and decoration of the home are the two most important activities. It is said that Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity arrives at homes of people and she resides in clean and clutter-free areas. That’s why cleaning and decoration are a tradition during Diwali. But there are many other things that you need to consider like making a list of shopping for yourself and the family, a list for the gifts to be sent, or the food menu, etc. Also don’t forget that your home is a large area consisting of a living room, study room, kitchen, bedroom, etc. and to prepare your home for Diwali – you must concentrate on each and every area of your home.

There is a step by step procedure behind preparing your home for Diwali. Here are a few tips on that:

Organize Every Corner:

Organize your home

As the day advances towards Diwali, you remember that it is the time to clean your home. Cleaning is a step by step process and for that, you have to remove clutter from each corner of your home. The space behind the refrigerator, the space below the bed, or the storeroom – check every room and its corners. Take out the things that you don’t require anymore and use a damp or dry cloth to clean that space. Check the drawers of all the tables too. When you are dusting your home, make sure everyone including the ones who are not working is wearing a mask.

Deep Clean Your Home:

Once you have removed the unwanted objects now it is the time to deep clean your home. Use good floor cleaners and seek the help of your siblings also to deep clean your home. Don’t forget to wipe the area under furniture, top of cupboards or shelves, behind the paintings, etc. You need to dedicate your weekends to this process. You can start a month before Diwali. One weekend for your living room, the second for your bedroom, another for your terrace and garden, and the last weekend before Diwali for the washrooms.

Make A List of Home Décor Things:

Shopping List

Organizing your stuff and deep cleaning means you are done with 60% of your Diwali preparation. Now, you need to sit with your family members and take suggestions on what all to buy to elevate the beauty of your home this Diwali. There must be some designer  Deepavali diyas, candles, and the string of fairy lights from yesteryear that you can use this year too. So, you can decide on a wallpaper, new paint, ceramic vase, wicker basket, etc. When you are thinking of home décor things, think from a 360 degree i.e., for every room. A new painting, colorful cushions, or new furniture for the living room, Feng Shui things for bedroom & study room, new designer bulb for the washroom, etc.

Go For Shopping:

Once your list is ready, go out for shopping. Bring the new things home and make sure you don’t throw away the papers or wraps here and there because you have just organized your home. To avoid the last-minute rush, go to the shops early or opt for online shopping.

Add Plants:

add plants to your home

Plants must be brought in the home during Diwali because it will purify your air. Diwali is the season of crackers and those crackers result in the smoky air. There must be babies and elderly members in your family who may have a hard time in that Diwali air. So, prepare your home with lots of air-purifying plants like Areca Palm, Snake Plant, Philodendron, etc. way before Diwali. Place these plants in your living room, bedroom, study room, balcony, entrance, and terrace so that you get to breathe better air.

Add Flowers:

add flowers

There will be designer diyas, candles, and lamps but if you want to add some natural colours to your space, you cannot forget the flowers. Add long-stemmed flowers to the empty vases and keep them in the corner of your room. Add the fragrant flowers like lilies or gardenia or jasmine to your living room. Get a wide-mouthed golden-coloured vessel and sprinkle flower petals on it and then place the floating candles. Your guests will appreciate your home décor idea with flowers.

Place Lights:

Not only the fairy lights gracing your balcony or front gate, use antique lampshades inside your living room. Go for colorful lights for the bar zone and opt for bright golden lights for your dining space. Don’t forget your garden. Use the antique lanterns and hang from the trees so that you can have an amazing get-together in your garden also.

Last but not the least, make sure your home smells good. For that place the fragrant candles in your living room, bedroom, and guest room.
