I was 12 years old at that time. The memories of that winter afternoon are still fresh in my mind. With a dart in my hand, I was constantly trying to hit the trunk of a tree in the garden. I missed a few shots that made me all the more desperate to hit right in the heart of the trunk and emerge a winner. In one of those desperate attempts, I accidentally hit my mom with the dart on her forehead, who was standing right beside the tree. <\/span><\/p>\n

Suddenly she started bleeding and I got numb though it was my mom who got hurt. In my mind, I was just getting ready for a strict punishment that any 12 years old can possibly receive for such a mistake. Yes, I was terrified at the thought of it. But to my utter astonishment, my mom did not say a single word. She did not scold me at all. She went inside, applied a bandage on her forehead and got busy with her chores. Without even saying anything, she communicated a very powerful message that day. The message of tolerance. Her silence taught me the significance of tolerance, which is embedded in our parents’ love. It is this virtue that inspires kids to be sensitive and compassionate towards others.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we grow, our parents pamper us with their unconditional love and care at every step of the way. No matter how many mistakes we make, they always embrace us with open arms. They hold our hands and introduce us to this beautiful world where we learn to grow and adapt. And once they grow older they too crave our love and care. Though it is easy to get irritated at silly mistakes and to forget to acknowledge their efforts, it is still them who stand by us unconditionally without any complaints.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Global Day of Parents<\/b> is observed on the 1<\/em><\/span>st<\/span><\/em> of June<\/em> every year to honor the struggles and sacrifices of parents around the world for making this world a better place for kids. Once someone becomes a parent, they have to wear several hats of a friend, mentor, guide and a philosopher to show their kids the picture of the real world. Being parents can be exhausting at times for which we owe our guiding angels gratitude and appreciation. We should acknowledge their contribution to shaping our lives and personalities. <\/span><\/p>\n

The increasing number of old age homes shows us the cold attitude of children towards their parents and how they see them as liabilities. They do not have the patience to deal with their old folks and eventually abandon them. The <\/span>International Parents Day<\/b> forces us to think about how we can love more, care more and give more to the people who are the reason for our existence. We need to create a safe space for our parents in our lives. They need to be celebrated for the love and commitment with which they have shaped our lives and character.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
